The Underbelly of Surgery

I had the opportunity to listen to a very interesting and eye opening podcast from Radio National’s Background Briefing  about the state of cosmetic surgery and ethical issues relating to the appropriate qualifications of some of the practitioners providing these services.

The talk raises some really interesting ethical conundrums that are slowly being addressed by the medical profession…but is this enough? Have a listen and let us know what you think!

This Talk Gave Me Shivers

You know that feeling when a chill goes down your spine?
Well I felt that tingle shoot down the moment I saw the Da Vinci Machine.

I don’t know whether if surgery is the direction I want to pursue, but I know I want to play with one of those babies for sure!

While I can’t imagine what the future of surgery will look like, I am definitely excited!

I don’t know how I feel about this.  This is either science gone mad or huge progress in surgical advancement.  I’m not a believer in god but I can’t help but wonder if medical science has gotten so advance that we are beginning to play the role of god.

Also so many ethical issues to think about. It challenges the notion of our identify and self-hood. Imagine the impact this has on the family members of the transplant recipient and donor.
